Ian has written seven musicals and performed in various touring and other productions throughout the country.

In 2006, Blude Red and Whisky Galore - A Musical were performed as shortened Fringe productions at St Augustines in Edinburgh. Produced by Cutting Edge Theatre Company.

In 2007 'Fling' was one of the ten finalists in the Highland Quest for a new musical competition and featured in the BBC2 Macmusical programme.

In early 2008 Ian created the roles of James McLehose and Gavin Hamilton in the Scottish Tour of the new musical 'Clarinda' and appears on the original cast recording.

From 15th May to 17th October 2009 the newly re-written version of 'Whisky Galore A Muiscal' was produced by Pitlochry Festival Theatre as part of their Homecoming season.
